Why does the tensile machine always break at the jaw position during the test

Hits:Updated:2020-05-12【Print】

There are many reasons that affect the broken jaws of wire tension machines:
The phenomenon of jaw fracture in the tensile test of the steel wire is generally due to the small gap formed by the bite of the jaw to the steel wire, that is, a fracture source is formed, and its influence is related to the following factors. According to various steel wire materials to prevent the broken jaws from being in position during the tensile test of the steel wire, our company adopts the jaw tooth pattern to compare each steel wire material.

       1. The material of broken jaws and fixtures has a direct impact:
The fixture made of ordinary steel and iron certainly cannot hold the steel wire. Another important thing is the material of the tooth block in the fixture.

       2. Influence of notch shape:
Due to the different jaws of the tensile testing machine, resulting in different notches, the impact is generally greater when the notch is at an acute angle, and less when the notch is at an obtuse angle.

       3. The effect of wire diameter:
Large-diameter steel wire (greater than 2mm), due to its large required breaking force value, and the large contact area between the sample and the jaw, its fast bite speed, it is not easy to cause the sample to slip or surface notch and other reasons to form jaw fracture Therefore, large-diameter wires are not sensitive to notches.
The small-diameter wire has a small contact area with the jaws, is not easy to bite, and is easy to cause a gap at the jaw. The sensitivity of the small-diameter wire to the gap is greatly increased. Therefore, it can be seen that the size of the diameter of the wire adopts jaws of different shapes.

       4. Influence of steel wire strength:
The steel wire with higher strength is more sensitive to the notch than the steel wire with lower strength. Generally speaking, high-strength steel wire has poor toughness and high brittleness, and small gaps will cause it to break; while low-strength steel wire with good toughness is not easy to form a fracture.
